Its not often we get to do a write up on a Celts win so you'll have to excuse our enthusiasm for reporting on Saturday's Shane vs Celts friendly. But it is true the Celts managed a 4-3 win playing 11-a-side on a full size pitch covered in grass.
The Celts played one of their best games in recent times with a shocking amount of simple short passing making a huge difference in their performance. Players who noticably made a difference included new Celt (still wearing his Shane shorts) Conner and Ian. Both wingers were able to support heavily a new 3-5ish-2 formation being tried out by captain of the day Russel Curtis. Truth be told I didn't understand a word of the pre-game talk where the formation was explained.
The first half of the game the Celts dominated the mighty Shane who didn't look their usual keen selves. The half finished 4-0 and in truth it could have been more if the Celts finishing had been a little better. While a few nice goals were scored it was Bradley's "cheeky" header over the on coming Shane keeper that signaled what kind of day the Celts were having.
The second half saw both teams looking hot and tired with chances coming at both ends of the pitch. Shane were able to convert on theirs though and managed to score 3, which made the last few "hours" of the game a little more exciting.
The Celts were down to 10 men due to injuries and lack of subs but managed to hang on and bag an important pre-season moral boosting victory.
