Old Grey Fritz PDF Print E-mail
Written by Michael Christie

This year Taipei City are heading into the final game of the season on the back of a 4-0 win against the once mighty Fritz FC and with a one point lead over new challengers to the title Hong Min Bualien. Bualien re-entered the league two seasons ago after a two year absence due to a falling out with the aforementioned Fritz, their old rivals and league head honcho.

Before City arrived on the scene these two teams maintained a fierce rivalry that in some ways represents the two main groups of people that are always vying for control of Taiwanese football. Right now the owner of Bualien is the chairman of the CTFA and has assembled a very strong squad and are very serious about winning back the trophy they last held in 2003/04.

Bualien are the only team to beat City this season when they caught them cold on the fourth week, inflicting their heaviest BML defeat ever, 3-0. Michael Christie admits 'We were guilty of a certain level of hubris on that day, strolling in 5 minutes before the game kicked off and expecting to get a win by simply turning up.' They are also the only unbeaten team in the league but their three draws put them one point behind City’s tally. A win or a draw would hand City their 3rd title in their four years of existence, but a loss would see Bualien take the crown.

Kick off is 6pm Saturday March 19th at Bailing Chao.
