Thriller in Taiwan V6's League PDF Print E-mail
Written by Dan Calvert

Wednesday night saw the second round of games in the Inaugural Victory 6’s League produce a cracking encounter between two of Taiwan’s oldest teams, the Red Lions FC and Mighty Shane FC.

49 minutes of true grit and desire left the scores poised at 5-5 and it looking like both teams would go home relatively happy with a hard earned point.  This though was shattered along with Lions hearts moments later however as Zach Paruch from Mighty Shane scored a cracking goal mired with some controversy.

After picking the ball up in the middle of the pitch Paruch made his way to the sideline sidestepping a couple of challenges on the way.  Once there the ball was very close to being in touch however the referee waved play on much to the vocal distain of the on looking Lions.  With no throw called Paruch then went onto produce a sublime drag back before rounding two defenders and slotting home the winner.

Mighty Shane coach Ian Edwards commented after the game; “We were a little slow to get going tonight but in the end showed true character to get this result.  I feel its fair reward especially considering some of the cheeky antics that were being employed by the Lions”.  This comment is sure to not go down well in the Lions camp and should ensure an interesting return fixture in which Edwards would be well advised to wear his shin guards!

In the nights other games the Feral Badgers went down 8-1 to the Badgers Asses in the big On Tap derby game with Feral captain Matt Wharton being overheard bemoaning “we just didn’t get the lucky breaks tonight”, whilst Taipei City put in a solid performance to beat the ‘Orange Army’ Carnegies 6-2.
