5-Star Carnegies Break Badgers' Hearts PDF Print E-mail
Written by Dan Calvert

Wednesday night saw the latest installment of the Victory 6’s Football League at Ying Fen Riverside Park.

After several torrential downpours throughout the day the pitch was glistening under the lights and looked in perfect condition for a slick passing game along the ground.  The first game was between the Feral Badgers and Carnegies and as the players removed their plastic waterproof jackets and walked onto the pitch there was an air of excitement buzzing through the on looking spectators.

The game started evenly with both teams having their fair share of possession and the Badgers forging a couple of good opportunities that were squandered at the vital moment.  Just before half time however a well worked move by Carnegies resulted in Dave Smith being given way to much space on the left.  Smith wasted no time in producing a fine driving run onto goal and finished with a thunderbolt the mighty ‘Thor’ would have been proud of.

The second half started with Carnegies seeming to make a concerted effort to press the Badgers higher up the pitch and this tactic seemed to pay off as they scored 2 quick goals to deflate Badgers hopes.  When all was seemingly lost however an intricate Feral Badgers move caught the Carnegies defense napping and Jack Gallant slotted home from a tight angle to rekindle the green army’s hopes.

With 5 minutes to go the workhorse Smith made another fine run from the midfield before playing a neat one two pass and scoring.  This goal sealed the fate of the plucky Feral Badgers who conceded one more before the end.  The game finished 5-1 to Carnegies but the Feral Badgers should take heart form a much improved display.

In the other games Mighty Shane FC came back from being 4-1 down to draw 4-4 with the Badgers Asses whilst a cracking game between Taipei City and the Lions resulted in a 5-5 draw.  Taipei City are now looking very good for the championship having only dropped 2 points all season.
